Today’s Inspirational Poetry: First Time

Sunday is poetry day on my blog. This week's inspirational poetry: First Time

FIRST TIME

One day old.

As we, with your mother, stare and ache
at the soft, open throb
of your bald and vulnerable skull
translucent
at your gossamer brows,
your neck so soft,
too slight as yet, to hold the head
that's heavier than your body
but already elegant, like hers

at the four question marks
made by your still-curving limbs
at your crystalline skin
and nails, each one of ten
a pin-point of pure perfection.

the sun comes out.

Through the window
its light passes, for the first time,
across your face.

Illuminates.

And with you we are all newborn.
