This Sunday’s poem of the week is: Configured: A True Story

I write and publish my poetry first on Instagram. Then on Sundays, I post the poem that received the most likes or comments here on my blog. Below is my most popular Instagram poem this week, “Configured: A True Story”.

Enjoy!

Configured: A True Story

(Server: “Everything to your satisfaction, Sir?”)

The explanation doesn’t arrive
until he’s draining the last of his wine.
And mopping his plate with a remnant of bread.
Then: "The bill, please!" He’s all out of time.

(Server: "Certainly Sir.”)

As we wait, he configures— each one by one —
the dessert fork, the napkin, the spoon.
Then a final few words (and a ten-dollar tip),
and he's up from his chair. Out and gone.

(Server: "Shall that be all, Madam?”)
