Engage the Three Creative Energies: Work, Rest and Play

Are you looking forward to the creative week ahead? Do you know what you intend to create this week? Below is the map of my creative intentions for my author business for this week (Week 31 Q3 2019).
Our theme for Creative Flow Practice this week is: Engage the Three Creative Energies: Work, Rest and Play.

three creative energies: work, rest and playThe thoughts and feelings of our conscious, conventional mind are necessary to getting from desire to done, yes, but often we overdo thinking at the expense of feeling, being, sensing and doing.

In any creative project, whether we realize it or not, the subconscious mind is doing most of the heavy lifting. Thoughts and feelings often form a layer that can be hugely distracting, generating debilitating doubts that block off the wisdom and creative power of the subconscious.

As the very groovy Mr Einstein once said, you can’t solve a problem by bringing to it the same level of thinking that creates it.

For creatives what that means is when we’re creatively challenged, we have to go deeper, or higher, find a different level of thought.

And no, we don’t do that by thinking: “I must go deeper, or higher, find a different level of thought.”

That’s just adding more thought.

Thinking is the level of mind that created the problem.

How we access the level of mind beyond thinking (in the Go Creative! method, we call it the “create state”) is through the acts of creative rest and creative play.

Work rest and play, the three creative energies we must engage to experience flow, are going to be the focus of our creative flow practice this week.

  • On Monday we’ll look at creative rest,
  • Tuesday at creative play,
  • Wednesday at creative work
  • Thursday at how the three integrate together.

Mapping Creative Intentions Week 31, 2019

In our Go Creative! in Business group, each Monday we outline our creative intentions to each other. And then we follow up on a Saturday with what we’ve actually accomplished during the week. What’s unique about our group is that our report is given under the three hats a creative entrepreneur must wear: that of Maker (who produces), Manager (who processes) and Maximizer (who promotes). Join the group to map your intentions and log your accomplishments.

I seem to be repeating everything I mapped last week today. I’ll try not to take any detours this week… but who knows? Here are the intentions:

  • MAKER: Top priority is to sign off on the Go Creative! Quarterly Planner
  • MANAGER: Set up the long-awaited affiliate pages
  • MARKETER: Update the perma-free and free self-publishing guides

That’s what I’ll be up to in my author business and it’s a busy week at ALLi too as we go live with our new member website. What about you? What will you be producing, processing or promoting this week? Do pop over to our Go Creative! in Business Facebook group, where we support and motivate each other. It’s completely free, there’s no selling or self-promotion, and you can leave anytime if it isn’t the right fit for you. You’ve nothing to lose and it may be just the creative boost you need.
