This Sunday’s poem of the week is: What I Want

I write and publish my poetry first on Instagram. Then on Sundays, I post the poem that received the most likes or comments here on my blog. Below is my most popular Instagram poem this week, “What I Want”.

Enjoy!

What I Want

I want to sing like
the turnings of the sea
on an ordinary day.
No great storms
or great calm,
just everyday waves.

I want to write poems
for those on the down low,
and the hill up.
For dreamers
for doers
for the people my people
call colonised,
for the colonisers
who come to care.

Is there a more beautiful thing
in this world
than a patched human heart?

I want change.
I want to see punishing
systems dissolved,
not in a fight but a whisper.

I want to live out loud
this life that is mine.
I want you to live yours,
us all out of hiding.

I want more years,
years more
with my friends,
my long love,
my forever babies.

I want to think like water.
I want to move like a leaf.
I want to be like air,
to touch everyone lightly
with a love that’s invisible
but inhaled.

I want desire
to expand me
all the way
into old age
and beyond.

I want my want
to keep me wanting
