Each Sunday I publish a poem about some aspect of creative working and living. This week's inspirational poem: Renovation is about a job we're getting done on our house at the moment.
Such a mundane and practical topic but poetry finds that there's always more going on than meets the surface eye.
Inspirational Poem: Renovation
A scaffold around our house and two men
scraping paint off bricks, releasing red dust
everywhere, making our neighbors complain.
(We'll have to pay to hose down half the street,
it seems, when we complete). On we go, though,
with our scraping. Mending the mortar cracks
exposed, casting our paint-powder, as we
must, uncovering what was unseen but
always solidly beautiful, beneath.
