My Creative Week 38: Going Deep and Staying Deep

My Creative Week. Accomplishments: Week 38, Q3, 2019

Here’s what I achieved in my author business, wearing my three work hats this week.

  • MAKER: Two chapters of Creative Self-Publishing in the can.
  • MANAGER: Brief for the revamp of is almost complete
  • MARKETER: Working on how to integrate ads with my creative process

In our Go Creative! in Business group, each Monday we outline our creative intentions to each other. And then we follow up on a Saturday with what we’ve actually accomplished during the week. What’s unique about our group is that our report is given under the three hats a creative entrepreneur must wear: that of Maker (who produces), Manager (who processes) and  Marketer (who promotes). Week 38 Flow Practice Theme: Going Deep and Staying Deep

The theme for our Creative Flow Practice this week was about going deep and also staying deep.

Very often when we start out with a creative intention, we’re highly motivated and all flows well. The nature of creative work, though, is that challenge is built into its structures. Sometimes the challenge might be another person, the work itself, or in a myriad of different ways, but by definition, challenge will arise

That is when we can find ourselves coming out of create state, that deep connected state we cultivate with flow practice, and into a more conventional, ego-driven state which is out of the moment it is in and projected on the outcome we want.

Wanting to be finished too soon, sooner than we are ready, is a common symptom of this slipping up to the surface.

Another symptom is engagement with the problem at the level of moaning or feeling discouraged or overly judgemental.

There are 1000 different ways this slippage can present, and it doesn’t really matter which emotion you’re bringing to it.

The content of the thinking and feeling is not that important. What’s important for you to note is that you’ve slipped out of deep mind into surface mind, from flow to resistance, away from creative flow into constricted thought.

And so the task is to return again, as we do in inspiration meditation and f-r-e-e-writing. To use the practices to firstly observe that the slippage has happened and then to consciously drop ourselves again down into the deep.
